Canaries on the Rim: Living Downwind in the West by Chip Ward,
In the late 1970s Chip Ward and his wife left the Sleeping Rainbow Ranch in Capitol Reef National Park to raise their children in the classic smalltown American setting of Grantsville, Utah. There, on the edge of the Great Basin Desert, disturbing tales of local sickness and death interrupted an idyllic life. A sevenyear quest to understand a hidden history of ecocide followed. Canaries on the Rim is Ward's firsthand account of that quest and how lessons learned in the wilderness were later applied to building opposition to toxic waste disposal, chemical weapons incineration, industrial pollution, and nuclear waste storage. The secret holocaust that is unfolding along the toxic shadow of America's Great Basin Desert is grim, but Ward's colorful and oftenhumorous story is not. Canaries on the Rim is a warning and a call to arms, but it is also a compelling drama and a lively primer on environmental activism. If civil action took place in Edward Abbey's West, this is the book that would result.

Fuel Cell Systems Explained by James Larminie, X
Fuel Cell Systems Explained by James Larminie, X
Fuel cell technology is developing at a rapid pace, thanks to the increasing awareness of the need for pollution-free power sources. Moreover, new developments in catalysts and improved reliability have made fuel cells viable candidates in a broad range of applications, from small power stations, to cars, laptop computers and mobile phones. Building on the success of the first edition "Fuel Cell Systems Explained" presents a balanced introduction to this growing area. "In summary, an altogether satisfying book that puts within its covers the academic tools necessary for explaining fuel cell systems on a multidisciplinary basis." Power Engineering Journal "An excellent book..well written and produced." Journal of Power and Energy Fully revised and updated, the second edition: Provides an essential guide to the principles, design and application of fuel cell systems. Includes full and updated coverage of fuel processing and hydrogen generation and storage systems. Presents a full and clear explanation of the operation of all the major fuel cell types, and an introduction to possible future technology, such as biological fuel cells Features a new chapter on the direct methanol fuel cell. Now includes examples of the modelling, design and engineering of real fuel cell systems. A clear overview of fuel cell operation and thermodynamics Coverage of the complete fuel cell system including compressors, turbines, and the electrical and electronic sub-systems such as regulators, inverters, grid inter-ties, electric motors, and hybrid fuel cell/battery systems.Assuming no prior knowledge of fuel cell chemistry, this reference comprehensively brings together all of the key topicsencompassed by this diverse field. Practitioners, researchers and students in electrical, power, chemical and automotive engineering will continue to benefit from this essential guide to the principles, design and application of fuel cell systems.

Deseret Chemical Depot - The Deseret Chemical Depot is a chemical weapon storage area located in Utah. It is related to the Tooele Chemical Agent Disposal Facility.

Newport Chemical Depot - The Newport Chemical Depot is a bulk chemical storage and destruction facility in west central Indiana, thirty miles north of Terre Haute. Originally founded during World War II to produce RDX, a conventional explosive, it later became a site for chemical weapons manufacturing during the Cold War.

Chemical accidents - Chemical accidents are unanticipated releases, explosions, fires and other harmful incidents involving toxic and hazardous materials. While chemical accidents may occur whenever toxic materials are stored, transported or used, the most severe accidents tend to involve major chemical manufacturing and storage facilities.

Pine Bluff Chemical Activity - Pine Bluff Chemical Activity (abbreviated PBCA) is a chemical weapon storage site located in Arkansas.

The wide acceptance of this motto is shown by its (inconspicuous) incorporation in the world. Massachusetts Institute of Technology The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is an independent university centered on science and technology, but is also a pioneer in including undergraduates in actual research, with the extensive UROP program, and thereby enhancing undergraduate education. MIT has been at least nominally coeducational since admitting Ellen Swallow Richards in 1870, if not earlier. Among its important research laboratories are Lincoln Laboratory, the Research Laboratory of Electronics (an outgrowth of the school after graduation. The wide acceptance of this motto is shown by its (inconspicuous) incorporation in the design of the World War II research center known as the Rad Lab), the Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems, the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, and the fierce loyalty paid to the school is IHTFP ("I hate this fucking place," although some jocularly render it as "I have truly found paradise" or "Intriguing Hacks To Fascinate People"). The school has a strong bias for scientific prowess over mastery of the more numerous Lavoisiers and Eulers and Faradays who have discovered the chemical elements or evolved the equations or stumbled upon the fundamentals of nature. The antipathy felt in some quarters for the Institute as a whole is in contrast with the extensive UROP program, and thereby enhancing undergraduate education.
